VANESSA PLA

Vanessa Pla is a self-taught Latinx director whose surreal, colorful storytelling spans a wide range of genres and clients. Born in Chicago and raised in a Cuban and Puerto Rican household, Pla grew up drinking evening coffee with her grandmother and listening to the crackle of frying chicken. She finds lasting inspiration in red tomatoes and Greek statues. She is drawn to stories that highlight authenticity and bring color to the mundane, creating captivating modern imagery while pulling from older cinema palettes and vintage motifs. Each project calls for its own approach, but what stays constant is her need to push boundaries and challenge perspective, both literally and metaphorically.
